I know opinions are divided on hazmat, but personally I think every driver should have it .. Why? Well #1 because most companies pay extra, I know some of the extra pay isn't worth the trouble, but sometimes it is. #2 Your CDL is your career so why would you not want every endorsement? Not having it closes some really good doors if you ever decided to change jobs. Having it opens a lot of doors! Not everyone has this opinion, but I recommend all new drivers coming in to the industry to get their hazmat.

Some schools do train you for it, but you will still need to complete and pay for the background check at the DMV before its placed on your CDL

The school I attended in Murphreesboro,Tn. back in 2004 required us all to obtain the Hazmat Endorsement on our first CDL and even tho with my messed up DAC I am glad I got it back then. I believe eventually all trucking companies will be paying more for drivers with the Hazmat included on their CDL because most drivers now are taking it off when they renew their license.

I had the H.M.E. (haz mat endorsement) put on in '07, renewed the License in '08 and kept the H.M.E. which expires July of '12 at which point it'll NOT BE renewed. I personally see NO BENEFIT for having the H.M.E. except for the reduced cost of a T.W.I.C.

Having ALL Endorsements is one thing.
Having EXPERIENCE with ALL the endorsements is another thing.
ANYONE can pass the written tests for the extra Endorsements yet then it becomes gaining the EXPERIENCE to support those Endorsements.
I hope the BEst uv WELLness 2-u-n-urs-n ALL adventures!!
I hope you comprehend what I'm posting because sometimes I wonder......or wander.

I finally got all my endorsements. It will only help me in the long run, but again if you don't have the experience in pulling dbls then no one will hire you. They may or may not. The post above has the right idea about having your endorsements.
