Well its like this. You can get your own authority and insurance and have the freedom to not be tied down to a company you are leased on with.... You could back haul your own freight ect. And you wouldn't be stuck if the company you are leased with terminated their contract with you, BUT you would be paying the extra money to have your own authority.. Also I only recommend leasing with a 100% owner operator company it will work out better for you that way ... trust me.. The only problem I for see is that IF you do lease on with a company, you will have to qualify for that company just like a company driver would, and I'm 99% sure most of them will NOT hire your partner to haul their freight due to the fact he has no OTR. People think that they can buy a truck and lease to a company and this will solve their training, background, and history problems like tickets DUI ect. I am not saying that is what you are doing, im just letting you know you will BOTH have to qualify for the company you hire on with if you are wanting to run as a team just like a company driver would have to. I don't know of any owner operator companies that will let you lease on with them and train a driver straight out the gate... but I might be wrong. Really get your ducks in a row before you make a decision, because the decision you make could break you.... or make you!

Do your research before jumping into the firing pan. You don't want to lose everything before you even start out. I believe Old Wise is right about your partner. If he doesn't have the experience to haul then he won't be able too haul anyone's freight. He will need the 6 month requirement experience first.
