Felony

Postby hrleyman1958 on Fri Jan 01, 2010 1:34 pm

I have a felony from 1977. Attempted Murder. I served 17.5 yrs and got paroled in 1994. Served my parole. I worked in a factory for 12 yrs and they closed down, so I got my CDL in May 09. I worked for a farmer hauling grain for several months so far. Since I got my CDL I have called about 150 places for employment and not having OTR experience and this felony I cant, it seems I cant get my foot in the door. Do you have any suggestions. I got my CDL from the Danville Area Community College Trucking School.

The felony is whats killing your chances then top it with no OTR.... i know it was forever ago, but thats whats doing it ... OK, have you been to the employment office and check the job computer for small companies, or O/O to drive for yet? try that first, where do you live?

Georgetown Ill. I have been looking on different advertising lists on the computer. I will try the employment office to. As it stands some of the people I have applied with that would give me a chance still want 1 or 2 yrs. experience according to the insurance guidelines. I can get a job driving a dump truck but that does't apply to experience for tractor trailer experience.

Yea I know, thats why I wanted you to try to get on with a small company and o/o to get some experience... then you should be OK. It will be tough, but it can be done...

I'am supposed to be going to orientation wed. for Curry Ice &Coal out of Decatur. It is a foot in the door right now. As to other felon's out there it depend's on what kind of felony it is that they will let you in to a company. On serious felonies, if you have extenuating circumstances that go in your favor then you will stand a very slim chance of getting in the door also. Anyway to those of you looking for a trucking job you can also try hauling grain for farmers. I was very fortunate to have worked for a farmer who was good to me in Illinois for a couple of months and it helped to pay a few bills. He payed me cash so it wouldn't mess up my unemployment.

Here is a company that will take felons, (mind you though not all felons). Wills Transport, they are in Stafford MO., Also Stevens Transports, I believe they are in Nebraska. Starting out with these companies your pay with Wills is about $450 a week and Stevens is about $350 a week. For those of you near these terminals in Illinois, Springfield, Decatur, Carlinville, Hannibal MO. Curry Ice & Coal is hiring a few drivers right now. Orientation is two days at $50 dollars a day. You will ride with a trainer at $100 dollars a day. When you get your own truck you will get $125 dollars a day your trainer will follow you in his truck. After he cuts you loose then you will make 23% of the loads and after a time it goes to 25%. Hope this will help someone else get a started. It isn't much but its a start!!
