hello, looking for some insite im one of the unlucky ones w/a poistive dot test so here what in thinking and would need a lot of info, as im looseing everything im selling my home i hope to put 60,000 in my pocket maybe buy a truck and run under my own athorty, what would i need to think about and do to make it work and pay the bills anyone that could help i need all the info pros and cons,ive alwas beed a compty driver.

First off, it is answers.
With a positive drug test, do not bother buying a truck as no one will hire you and you'll have just wasted your money on a futile idea.
The positive stays on your record for at least 3 years (if not longer).
Look at the FMCSA Qualifications for Drivers for verification of this post.

WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF A POSITIVE DRUG TEST?
A driver must be removed from safety-sensitive duty if he/she has a positive drug test result. The removal cannot take place until the MRO has interviewed the driver and determined that the positive drug test resulted from the unauthorized use of a controlled substance. A driver cannot be returned to safety-sensitive duties until he/she has been evaluated by a substance abuse professional, has complied with recommended rehabilitation, and has a negative result on a return-to-duty drug test. Follow-up testing to monitor the driver's continued abstinence from drug use is also required.

well said screwdriver... i have told that story a many a time.... If you fail a drug screen, you dont need to be behind the wheel of a truck, or CAR for that matter... Truck Drivers know this ! Its common sense folks.... DONT DO DRUGS !!!!! Geez Hang it up for 3 years, learn from your mistake, clean your act up, and try trucking again in 3 or 4 years.... BUT DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TWICE... DRUGS AND BOOS ARE NOT A PRIORITY ESPECIALLY IF YOU DRIVE A BIG TRUCK...

Amen. I hear this OTR many times. How drivers get drunk on the road. Unbelievable that they think it's okay to have a drink or two when not driving.
